Alumni News & Events

Our annual Berkey Creamery Half-Gallon Sale brings Penn State’s world-famous ice cream to our local Alumni every spring.  It comes directly from the Creamery to our campus where we package it for eager Penn Staters to pick up, along with everyone’s favorite Grilled Stickies from Ye Olde College Diner.  A lot of Alumni use this as an opportunity to stock their freezers for the year.

Each summer, the City of McKeesport holds its Annual International Village, a three-day food festival featuring specialties from nations across the globe prepared by local churches and community organizations.  As thousands of people gather in the ball field adjacent to our campus grounds, we gather in our parking lot for our annual Parking For Paws.  For a $5 donation per car, Villagers have access to some of the best parking available for the festival, and 100% of the donations go to our Scholarship Fund.

The holidays should be a special time for children, but unfortunately there are some in our area who don’t get to experience that.  For the last 25 years, we’ve welcomed disadvantaged children from the area to campus for Breakfast With Santa, where they all have breakfast, have time for fun, games, and crafts, and then they all get to sit on Santa’s lap and pick out a toy to take home.  For some children this is the highlight of their Christmas season.

We work hard to raise money for our scholarship fund so that we can reward several of the campus’ best and brightest students each year. We are lucky to have been able to talk with some terrific young people who maintain stellar grades while using their free time to contribute to the campus and community through various groups and organizations.  We present recipients with their scholarships at the campus’ annual Honors Convocation.

Over the last few years, a group of students have come together to form the Greater Allegheny chapter of The Blue & White Society, the student contingent of the Penn State Alumni Association.  Their connection to us is just as important as our connection to them, so we’ve been spending a lot of time fostering a solid relationship with each other.  We’re happy to provide support, guidance, and assistance to them as they do the same for us.  David Buckholtz, Greater Allegheny Blue & White Society President, has this to say:  "Given the primary support and continuous guidance of the Penn State Greater Allegheny Alumni Society, this newly emerging chapter of the Blue & White Society has without a doubt potential for a successful future."  We very much look forward to working with this amazing group of students in years to come.

We have a lot of great new things planned for the coming years.  We will be partnering with Career Services to host an etiquette dinner for upcoming graduates where they will learn how to properly conduct themselves during business meetings and dinners. Along with formally welcoming graduates into the Alumni Association and Society at graduation every spring, we plan on hosting a Senior Sendoff Picnic where they will receive valuable information about their entry into the PSU Alumni Association and also about the support they will receive from us as Greater Allegheny Alumni. We also plan to be present at more Admissions events to help welcome new students to campus.  If you’d like to help us fulfill our mission to the campus and community, we hope to hear from you soon!
