Did you know that strong academic advising is the first key to student success?  Ensuring that GA students have a clear pathway to qualify for their degree and can graduate in eight semesters is the focus of Dr. Erica Tachoir, Division of Undergraduate Studies Coordinator and Manager of Advising and Orientation.

As a first-generation college student, Dr. Tachoir credits much of her success to her academic adviser and faculty who helped her navigate her coursework and make the most of her college experience.

“They never let me give up and always reminded me of the long-term goals that I had set for myself.  They pushed me to see myself as a scholar and take educational risks that benefitted me.  When I walked across the stage at graduation, it was not just for myself but to say thank you for what they had done for me.”

Now, she sees her role as DUS Coordinator in much the same way.

“I have never forgotten what it was like to be that timid student who was unsure how I would succeed or how I would continue to pay for college.  My job now is to give back to other students – helping them to navigate the early stages of their Penn State experience and set achievable goals for now and the future.

Be sure to schedule an appointment with Erica if you have questions about how to meet the entrance requirements for a particular degree or learn more about how to interpret your degree audit.
