MCKEESPORT, Pa. -- Students, faculty and staff will have the opportunity to learn more about climate change, as the Penn State Greater Allegheny campus welcomes doctoral candidate Nathan Geiger on Monday March 20.
Despite the importance of social discourse to understand and address the threat posed by anthropogenic climate change, most people in the U.S. are not regularly engaging in conversation about climate change. As part of the Teaching International Program, Geiger, a doctoral candidate in Social Psychology at Penn State’s University Park campus, will discuss findings from recent research on why people are hesitant to talk about climate change and how these barriers to discussion can be overcome.
Geiger studies engagement with climate change and socio-psychological factors that lead individuals to take action on the topic. His work has been featured in popular news outlets including The Washington Post.
The presentation will take place at 12:15 p.m. in the Ostermayer Room in the Student Community Center.
For the 2016-17 academic year, Teaching International is exploring the theme of climate change.
