Psychology (B.A. or B.S.)

Overview

Penn State Greater Allegheny is proud to have offered the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) and Bachelor of Science (B.S) degrees in Psychology since the beginning of the 21st century, the scientific study of biological, social and cognitive mechanisms of behavior. The principles of psychology are relevant to almost all areas of human endeavor, and the diverse career paths of psychology students reflect this wealth of possibilities.

Bachelor of Arts Program

The BA degree provides a very broad education in the arts, humanities, and social sciences. While many of the BA and BS requirements are the same, BA requirements beyond psychology courses include achieving competency in foreign language as well as additional credits of arts, humanities, social and behavioral sciences, and other cultures.Because the BA degree allows for more electives, students often have the flexibility to add a minor in another academic field.

The official course requirements for this degree for B.A. can be viewed in the online Undergraduate Bulletin under the suggested academic plan.

Bachelor of Science Program

The BS degree has two different options which require that students take additional courses beyond psychology in natural sciences, math, and business, depending on their choice. Students who enjoy science or are interested in pursuing careers in allied health, nursing, neuroscience, and medicine often choose the Science option. Students who are considering careers inhuman resources, marketing, and other aspects of business typically choose the Business option.

The official course requirements for this degree for B.S. can be viewed in the online Undergraduate Bulletin under the suggested academic plan.

Career Opportunities

Graduates in the Psychology program can find an array of career opportunities that include, but not limited to:

  • Government
  • Social service
  • Research
  • Business
  • Health-related fields
