Celebrate the 13th Annual All That's Jazz Scholarship Benefit

The Penn State Greater Allegheny community will celebrate the 13th Annual All That’s Jazz Scholarship Benefit on November 12, 2016.

This year’s event will celebrate thirteen years of great jazz music, delicious food, fun, and fellowship. More than $930,000 has been raised for scholarships in the past 12 years through the event.

“More than 90 percent of students at Penn State Greater Allegheny require some type of financial aid. The scholarship money raised through All That’s Jazz is vital in enabling many students to attend college and earn a Penn State degree. This year’s event promises to continue the tradition of providing support for our students,” said Chancellor and Chief Academic Officer Andrew Egan. “We hope that this year’s event will put All That’s Jazz over the $1 million mark of money raised for student scholarships.”

Tra-Esha is one of the students who benefits from scholarship money.  A senior business accounting major from Homestead, Pa., she aspires to become a personal banker.  Tra-Esha is a member of the Lion Ambassadors, a group of academically successful students who help to promote the campus. She is also a student-worker in the Admissions Office, which, in addition to scholarships, helps to pay for college. Tra-Esha said, “The scholarship money has been a tremendous help to me, particularly with textbooks, which are so expensive.  Donors understand how hard it is for students to get to this position in our life and your support helps make the battle a little easier. I appreciate the help.”

Another student who receives assistance from the money raised at All That’s Jazz is Jake from Bethel Park.  He says, “I really hope to be able to provide for my mother and father who have provided so much to me. To donors, I would say ‘thank you’ first and foremost, but that doesn't even begin to encompass my gratitude.” Jake is a Nuclear Engineering major in his second year.  He is the Academic Chair of the Student Government Association on campus. He helps to pay for college by working as a lifeguard. Scholarship money is vital to Jake. He added, “Without scholarships to pay for textbooks and tuition, I wouldn’t be able to go to college or get my degree.”  Jake dreams of working at the Breazeale Nuclear Reactor when he goes to University Park, and working at a nuclear or atomic plant.

The All That’s Jazz Committee is planning an exciting evening filled with auctions, food, and talented musicians.  The event will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 12, at the Penn State Greater Allegheny Student Community Center, 4000 University Drive, McKeesport.

The public is invited to join in the festivities to help support student scholarships. Tickets are $125 each.  Information on tickets and sponsorship opportunities can be obtained by calling (412) 675-9180.
