Students show Penn State pride by volunteering with Habitat for Humanity

The vision of Penn State Greater Allegheny is to always care for and advance the success of its students and communities. Each year, on several early Saturday mornings, students from the campus have helped their community by volunteering with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Pittsburgh. The tradition of students helping to build houses will continue this year as students gear up to volunteer three days this fall.

Where will your journey begin?

The Journey, an ongoing speaker series about career goals and personal experiences, is set to begin again this year, with Chancellor and Chief Academic Officer Andrew Egan as the first speaker on Sept. 8. The series is designed to help students who, upon entering Penn State, are confused about selecting a major and/or their career path.

Students at Penn State Greater Allegheny can get their resumes reviewed by professionals at Resumania, to be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9, in the Ostermayer Room in the Student Community Center.

Mediterranean dance workshops

Students, faculty and staff will have the opportunity to learn about and participate in dance styles from the Mediterranean as part of Teaching International's 2016-17 focus on countries that adjoin the Mediterranean Sea. The first workshop, which will teach participants belly dancing, is being presented by Susan Goeltz, a dance artist, instructor and choreographer, from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. Sept. 15 in the Ostermayer Room of the Student Community Center.

Greater Allegheny Psych Club walks in support of mental health organization

For the third year, students in the Psychological Association of Penn State Greater Allegheny (Psych Club) are participating in the NAMIWalks southwestern Pennsylvania event on Sunday, Oct. 2. The event is a 5K benefiting the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) and, according to club officers Dally Moore and Emilie Betters, is the first major club event of the 2016-17 academic year.
