This Friday, Dec. 16, is the deadline for new degree-seeking students to submit applications for the spring 2017 semester. All application materials must be submitted by 5 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 22. These materials include official high school and/or college transcripts, and test scores from ACT or the College Board (SAT). Those not meeting these deadlines will be considered for summer 2017 admission.
This fall approximately 5,247 Penn State students will receive their diplomas. University-wide there will be 252 associate, 3,936 baccalaureate, 762 master's, 11 law and 286 doctoral degrees awarded. Margaret Power visited Penn State Greater Allegheny as part of the Teaching International Speaker Series. The title of her talk was “Eleanor Roosevelt and Human Rights: From Norvelt, PA to the United Nations.” Power’s presentation came just a few days before the United Nation’s annual Human Rights Day.
Penn State Greater Allegheny’s fall 2016 commencement was held at 7 p.m. Dec. 15 in the Ostermayer Room in the Student Community Center on campus. Chancellor and Chief Academic Officer Andrew Egan presided. Jay Breckenridge, professor emeritus of theatre arts, was the commencement speaker.
Prize winners have been announced for Penn State's annual Faculty and Staff Appreciation Days. The event, which ran from Nov. 16 to Dec. 9, featured many chances to win prizes, including the grand prize of a Pittsburgh Steelers game-day package.
Fifteen Penn State faculty members have been honored with the title of "distinguished professor" in recognition of their academic contributions to the University.
As the University implements its long-range strategic plan that provides a vision for Penn State’s future, a series of public forums will take place to gather ideas on putting the plan into action. Faculty, staff and students are invited to participate in those forums, starting with “Stewarding Our Planet’s Resources” on Jan. 23.
