PSUGA Alum provides Inspiration for the Class of 2011

On Wednesday, April 18, Penn State Greater Allegheny students, alums, faculty, and staff gathered to celebrate the new class of students and their families who will be arriving on campus this fall. Future students hailed from all over Pennsylvania as well as several states. One of the most inspirational events of the evening were the words Danielle Auretto, a Penn State Greater Allegheny alum, shared with our new students and families. Danielle was a 2000 graduate of Penn State, where she majored in political science.

The Mighty Humble Blueberry: A documentary

In acknowledgment of Women's History month, documentary filmmaker Nancy O'Mallon and Dr. Kathleen Taylor Brown, Assistant Professor of Communications, presented a discussion about storyboarding related to writing, research, interviewing, producing, and editing a documentary, entitled "The Intersection between Producers and Researchers- Cellophane View: The Remarkable Life of Elizabeth Coleman White."

Honors Program Sponsors Visit to Gettysburg

Students and faculty visited the historical sites at Gettysburg on April 14, 2007. The trip was coordinated by James Gillespie, Assistant Professor of Mathematics and member of the campus honors program committee. The trip included a professionally guided tour of the Gettysburg battlefield, re-enactment groups demonstrating what camp life was like for Civil War soldiers, and a visit to the Civil War Museum. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MQfE9rKqJ2M

Hollywood's Africa Subject of Research Development Grant

Studying African cinema has long been a scholarly interest of Dr. MaryEllen Higgins, Assistant Professor of English at Penn State Greater Allegheny. Her 2007 Research Development grant, Hollywood's Africa After 1993, received funding to support her upcoming project of editing a book on the referenced subject.

Communications students capture 2nd and 3rd place at undergraduate exhibition

Three teams of Corporate Communications majors from Dr. Kathleen Taylor Brown's COMM 494 participated in the University-wide Undergraduate Research Exhibition, with entries in the course-based project category. Earning a second place prize was Lindsey Santora? and Arlee Scripp? for their entry entitled, "How has the discourse of broadcasting mediums, specifically the Internet, affected the emergence of the current participatory culture?"

Workshop on Indian music and dance

As part of Teaching International's focus on India and the campus Honors Program, a workshop on Indian music and dance was presented by Amzad Rahman - Thursday, April 5th from 3:00-5:00 p.m. in the Ostermayer Room of the SCC. The program was presented to the Theatre 208 H and Theatre 282 classes, but was open to the entire campus.

Mathematics from India

As part of the campus focus on India, Dr. Shenaz Choudhury gave a talk exploring some of the significant contributions to mathematics made by Indian mathematicians. Some examples includes the introduction of the number zero, the ancients' discussion about surprisingly large numbers, and Ramanujan's famous collaboration with Hardy in number theory.
