Information Technology Services, Office of Physical Plant and Academic Affairs collaborate to reimagine teaching and learning spaces on our campus. With partial support from the University's Learning Space Leadership Committee, Greater Allegheny has recently invested over $1 million in classroom improvements. These redesigns leverage our Digital Fluency Project, cutting edge technology, and the expertise of our faculty. The result is collaborative learning spaces in which our students gain the knowledge and experiences necessary to be successful in their chosen fields.

Built in 1973, Ostermayer Lab currently houses two biology and two chemistry teaching laboratories, along with four research laboratory spaces, a laboratory preparation space, faculty and staff offices, and one general purpose classroom. This image is the exterior of the building before the $14.7 million project to modernize and improve the existing 22,000-square-foot space at Penn State Greater Allegheny.

The Ostermayer Laboratory at the completion of the $14.7 million renovation project to modernize and improve the existing 22,000-square-foot space at Penn State Greater Allegheny. The use of digital tools and research-based approaches in teaching were considered in designing classroom and common areas.

Frable 301 - Engineering Laboratory. Former office storage space was redesigned and constructed to offer Engineering students a collaborative working space. Monitors on all walls allow faculty to mirror content from the iPad, making it visible from multiple locations in the room.

The renovation of the Greater Allegheny Game Room includes an artistic blend of modern and industrial and contains five 70-inch TVs, a Sony PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, Microsoft Xbox and arcade machines. In addition to the gaming consoles, an Apple TV will augment our Digital Fluency Project. Apple TV enables students to use AirPlay with their iPads, which mirrors their displays to larger screens for group collaboration, studying sessions and movie watching.
