MCKEESPORT, Pa. — Teaching International is a program on campus that dedicates the year to a specific country and invites scholars from the Pittsburgh region to teach students at Penn State Greater Allegheny about a specific topic.

This year Penn State Greater Allegheny will be focusing on Puerto Rico.

The first guest speaker this academic year was Juan Duchesne Winter, professor of Latin American literature at the University of Pittsburgh. He came to the campus to invoke conversation on “Puerto Rico's Current Social and Economic Crisis.”

Winter hopes that he will leave a lasting impact on students and have them take in the information he has provided.

“Situations like Puerto Rico are very complex and people have to consider lots of factors," he said. "There are natural factors, like agents of climate change; there are social factors regarding social inequality exclusion; there are also political factors, so no issue is simple. No issue will allow you to make a simple claim that somebody is the culprit or responsible.”

Penn State Greater Allegheny has a wonderful line up of guest speakers for this year’s Teaching International so make sure to stay up to date with all of the events on campus.
