
Penn State Greater Allegheny's Commencement Speaker and Grand Marshal, Dr. Anthony B. Mitchell Sr., opening our Fall 2022 Commencement Ceremony.
Dr. Anthony B. Mitchell Sr., is an Associate Teaching Professor in African and African American Studies at Penn State Greater Allegheny. He is the co-founder of the Stewart and Jones Scholar Leadership Program, a collegiate mentoring program for males of color at Penn State. He is also an inaugural member of The Crossing Bridges Summit, a Greater Allegheny initiative to address racial divides in the region.
Dr. Mitchell has received several awards for his leadership efforts. He is the recipient of the University’s prestigious Dr. James Robinson Equal Opportunity Award for his contributions to enhancing cross-cultural understanding. He has also received Greater Allegheny’s Commitment to Community Service Award, the College of Education Alumni Society “Service to Penn State Award” and the Penn State Forum on Black Affairs (FOBA) “Humanitarian Service Award” for his leadership, extensive contributions and service to historically under-represented populations and diverse communities in Pennsylvania.
At the end of the fall semester, Dr. Mitchell is retiring from Penn State with 37 years of dedicated and inspiring service.

Student Commencement Speaker, Student Marshal and Psychology B.A. Degree Candidate, Elizabeth Jeffers, delivers her speech to the Fall Class of 2022.
Elizabeth Jeffers, of Monongahela, PA, is a candidate for a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. Prior to coming to Penn State Greater Allegheny, she attended Community College of Allegheny County, South Campus where she was a member of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society. She continued to achieve academic accolades at Greater Allegheny and was inducted into Psi Chi, the International Honor Society in Psychology. Originally from Fredericksburg, Virginia, Elizabeth is the daughter of Darrell Jeffers and Jacqueline Jeffers. She is a veteran of the United States Navy and the mother of two.
At our Fall 2022 Commencement Ceremony, Elizabeth was also one of three Penn State Greater Allegheny graduates accepting an Academic Excellence Award.
Penn State Greater Allegheny values academic excellence. The Penn State Greater Allegheny Academic Excellence Awards are given to students achieving a cumulative GPA of 3.60 and above, and who have completed at least 36 credits at Penn State Greater Allegheny.
