STEM students get a strong start

Nine incoming first-year students honed their academic skills before officially starting their college courses. Now in its fourth year, the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) program began at Penn State Greater Allegheny on July 29 and ran through Aug. 20.

Greater Allegheny athletic director featured on 'Inside Pirates Baseball'

Penn State Greater Allegheny athletic director and head baseball coach Jim Chester ([email protected]) was featured on the June 21 episode of "Inside Pirates Baseball," which aired on ROOT Sports. Chester, just after completing the best season of his career, was featured on the show getting a few pointers from someone who knows a thing or two about leading a ball club, Pittsburgh Pirates manager Clint Hurdle.

Chancellor Porter recognized as an innovative leader

Penn State Greater Allegheny Chancellor Curtiss E. Porter was selected by Talk Magazine as a 2013 Pennsylvania Distinguished College/University President. According to Luther Sewell, publisher of Talk Magazine, Porter was selected for his "commitment, dedication and for accepting the tremendous responsibility of nurturing and educating the future leaders and citizens of our state and nation."

Greater Allegheny offers virtual admissions events

The Penn State Greater Allegheny Admissions department will be holding two virtual events on Wednesday, July 10.  These events allow prospective students to interact with current students and admissions staff via a live webinar.  The event will be accessed through a free, online event site designed to connect prospective students with colleges and universities in a live, interactive environment.

New 3-D printer technology debuts at Penn State Greater Allegheny

First-year students in the engineering program at Penn State Greater Allegheny are experiencing a fun new way of learning. The campus recently purchased a 3-D printer with funds from a grant called Toys 'N More, which is a National Science Foundation program aimed at increasing the retention of engineering students.

Penn State Greater Allegheny's spring 2013 commencement was held on Saturday, May 4 at 11 a.m. in the Wunderley Gymnasium on the campus. Chancellor Curtiss E. Porter presided as diplomas were conferred to students receiving baccalaureate and associate degrees. President and CEO of MARC USA, Michele Fabrizi, was the keynote speaker.
