As part of a series of Black History Month events, the Black Student Union is presenting a panel discussion called "Bridging the Gap."
The panel is about creating
a dialogue between the generation who lived during the civil rights era
or those who are well informed about the era and those of this
generation.
To
create a welcoming and comfortable environment for all students, members
of the panel consist of a diverse group of faculty and staff.
As part of his initiative to help students and families facing financial pressures, Penn State President Eric Barron on Friday (Jan. 16) proposed to the Board of Trustees a freeze of tuition rates for eight of the 19 undergraduate Commonwealth Campuses for next year, in addition to presenting five other recommendations.
Cynthia Oliver became the director of campus development and alumni relations at Penn State Greater Allegheny effective November 25. Oliver comes to Penn State with approximately 20 years of fund raising and nonprofit administration experience. Most recently she served as director of advancement for Catholic Charities and Catholic Charities Free Health Care Center in Pittsburgh. Last year, under her direction, the Catholic Charities development team raised $3.5 million in annual gift revenues.

The Penn State Greater Allegheny students of BA 422W, Strategic Business Planning, presented a Strategic Plan for the Strip District on Dec. 3 at the Pittsburgh Public Market. The class spent the fall semester performing an in-depth study of the business strategies of the Strip District. The presentation, titled "Strategies for Lasting Success," was followed by a question-and-answer session.

The Nittany Lion stood at the door of the Student Community Center at Penn State Greater Allegheny, as the house grew full for the 11th annual All That's Jazz scholarship benefit. As guests entered the building, they heard the melodic voices of the Penn State Greater A Capella Melody Lions, led by Doretta Whalen, adjunct instructor in music.
"What are your classes like?"
"What's it like living in a dorm?"
"How do I get financial aid?"
These are just a few of the questions asked by high school students at the College & Career Knowledge program recently held at Penn State Greater Allegheny. The questions were asked during peer-led break-out sessions in which high school students had the chance to talk with current college students, learning about student life, academic expectations and social opportunities at a university.
