Overview:
At Penn State Greater Allegheny, we work to create a sustainable world so we have an equitable world. Using the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals as a roadmap, our sustainability initiatives engage students, faculty, staff and community members in projects that meet challenges head-on and improve situations now and for the future.
Initiatives:
Project GAGA (Goats at Greater Allegheny)
In the fall of 2018, Penn State Greater Allegheny became the first commonwealth campus to use goats to maintain campus grounds. Goatscaping clears overgrown areas and hillsides in an eco-friendly way. The goats help us manage vegetation without herbicides, leaving no waste and naturally fertilizing the soil.
Edible Walking Trail
Walkthrough the heart of campus and you will find fruit, vegetable and herb plantings. Faculty and students, along with Physical Plant team members maintain the growing spaces that provide community members access to fresh produce.
