Barrett Scroggs, Ph.D.

Dr. Barrett Scroggs earned his Ph.D. in life-span human development from Kansas
State University in 2018. He joined Penn State in 2018 as an assistant professor
of human development and family studies at the Mont Alto campus. Dr. Scroggs
established himself as a leader in his field researching the experiences of
LGBTQIA+ emerging adults during the transition from adolescence to adulthood. He
was promoted to associate professor in 2023 where he continued his line of
research and was appointed assistant director of academic affairs at Penn State
Mont Alto. Dr. Scroggs is currently the co-chair of the Penn State Presidential
Commission on LGBTQ Equity and is an affiliated faculty with both the Edna
Bennett Pierce Prevention Research Center and the Social Science Research
Institute. Dr. Scroggs also received the Provost Endorsement in Leadership and
Service as a part of the 2023 Penn State Emerging Academic Leaders program.

In July 2024, Dr. Scroggs was appointed interim director of academic affairs and
chief academic officer at Penn State Greater Allegheny. In his role, Dr. Scroggs
oversees all academic programs at Penn State Greater Allegheny. He has
prioritized the implementation of initiatives focused on student success in and
out of the classroom, cross-department collaboration focused on recruitment and
retention efforts, and the creation of a centralized support system within
academic affairs to best support students, staff, and faculty. Dr. Scroggs says,
“I believe strongly in the land-grant mission of Penn State. Every student in
and around Allegheny County has access to a world-class Penn State education
right here in our region.”
