Penn State Greater Allegheny has received its first Premier sponsorship for the 12th Annual All That?s Jazz Scholarship Benefit, to be held Saturday, November 7 in the Student Community Center on campus. The $10,000 gift from the rotary Club of White Oak will be added, along with all of the other monies raised for the event, to the scholarship fund on campus.
More
than $835,000 has been raised for scholarships in the past 11 years through All That?s Jazz. This year?s event will celebrate twelve years
of great jazz music, delicious food, fun, and fellowship.
?So many of our students at
Penn State Greater Allegheny require some type of financial aid. Loans are
often not enough to cover all of the expenses and the family resources of our
students are strained. The scholarship money raised at All That?s Jazz is vital in enabling our students to complete their
education. This year?s event promises to continue the tradition of providing support
for our students,? said Cynthia Oliver, Campus Director of Development and
Alumni Relations.
The All That?s Jazz Committee is planning an inspirational
night filled with auctions, food and talented musicians. The event?s theme is Juke Joint Jazz. Juke joint is the vernacular term for an
informal establishment featuring music, dancing, gambling, and drinking,
primarily operated by people in the southeastern United States. Classic juke
joints found at rural crossroads, catered to the rural work force that began to
emerge after the emancipation.
The event will begin at 7:00 p.m. on
Saturday, November 7, at the Penn State Greater Allegheny Student Community
Center, 4000 University Drive, McKeesport. The public is invited to join in the
festivities to help support student scholarships. Tickets are $125 each.
