Greater Allegheny to host spoken-word artist for Black History Month

MCKEESPORT, Pa. — Penn State Greater Allegheny in McKeesport will host a spoken word poetry slam as its signature event for Black History Month. The event will be held at 6 p.m. on Feb 20, in the Ostermayer Room of the Student Community Center. The poetry slam will be free and open to the public.

Student poets will open for headliner and spoken-word artist Rudy Francisco. Francisco has shared stages with Gladys Knight, Jordin Sparks, Musiq Soul Child and Jill Scott, and appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. He will perform at 7:40 p.m.

“Bringing Rudy Francisco to Penn State Greater Allegheny is imperative because his values align with our current mission, ‘We are a catalyst for individual and social change, committed to improving the community and the world around us,’” said Evan Williams, residential education specialist. “With this event being open to the public, it provides us all to be in one place, as one community, blended with our differences, but striving for social change."
