Admissions FAQ

How can I arrange a visit to the campus?

We definitely recommend that you visit our campus, either before you apply or shortly after you submit your admission application. A student Lion Ambassador will be happy to give you a campus tour and answer questions you may have, and an admissions counselor will explain the application and admission process. In addition, a student aid counselor is available to discuss any concerns you have about financing your education. For more information, see our campus visits page.

When should I apply?

We recommend that first-year admission applications be submitted by November 1, but applications will be accepted after that date and evaluated in the order in which they're received. Transfer admission applications should be submitted as soon as possible prior to the start of the desired semester, due to the lengthier evaluation of the transfer credit process. While Penn State Greater Allegheny offers a rolling admission throughout the year, it's best to apply early to allow time for all of your information to be processed before the beginning of a semester.

How should I apply?

Apply online by visiting Penn State’s Undergraduate Admissions page and creating a My Penn State account. Be sure to include your first and second choices for campus location.

How will Penn State Greater Allegheny notify me of its decision regarding the application for admission?

All students are notified through the mail regarding the outcome of the application evaluation. In addition, an admission decision will be posted to your "My Penn State" account online.

What is the 2+2 Plan?

The 2+2 Plan allows students to complete their first and second years before moving to a different Penn State location to complete their degree. You can learn more about the 2+2 Plan here.

Are admission requirements for out-of-state students different than those for in-state students?

No, all students are evaluated in the same way.

When will I need to "transfer" to Penn State University Park?

We don't use the term "transfer" to describe the process of moving from one Penn State location to another because at Penn State, every campus is equal. Penn State is proud of its 2+2 Plan, which enables students to begin their education at one campus, then move to another Penn State location to complete their degree. Students declare a major in the middle of the second-year and, at that time, select the campus at which they plan to finish their studies in their third and fourth years. Credits earned at all Penn State campuses, including University Park, are the same. When selecting an entrance to major in their second year, students at all locations are on equal footing with students at University Park.

Can I complete my entire education at Penn State Greater Allegheny?

Typically, students can complete the first two years of nearly all of Penn State's 275+ majors at Greater Allegheny, then move to University Park or another Penn State location to complete their third and fourth years. However, Greater Allegheny offers several baccalaureate degrees that can be completed entirely on campus. For more information, see Academics.
