Strategic Vision and Guiding Principles

Vision

Penn State Greater Allegheny will be a diverse and vibrant education environment for all members of our campus community.  We prioritize equitable and just experiences so our students develop the skills to become responsible members of society and advocates in a global world.  We leverage our collective experiences, talents, and resources to cultivate educational opportunities, and promote economic growth.

Diversity Commitment

Penn State Greater Allegheny creates a diverse campus community where all are welcome, and all belong.
Penn State Greater Allegheny embraces the plurality of voices and the unique stories we share.  These stories inspire us to be greater as we innovate, imagine, create and engage the world around us.
Penn State Greater Allegheny celebrates intersectionality as we seek to discover more about ourselves and our campus culture and climate.

Strategic Principles Working Groups

Penn State Greater Allegheny’s 2020 – 2025 Strategic Plan advances our desire to create a community in which each individual experiences personal and professional fulfillment and shares the impact of that experience with others.

Our guiding principles are the basis for our goals and objectives during this planning period. Campus and advisory board strategic planning survey results and the reports complied by our campus retention work groups identified common themes; provide a quality educational experience, welcome and meet the needs of a diverse student population, increase our visibility and outreach, and make contributions to our region.

Through thoughtful work in the areas of Education, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and External Engagement, we will challenge one another, and inspire one another to Be Greater in all that we do. Our actions and the decisions we make will transform our students, alumni, faculty and staff, and the communities we serve.

Education Principle

Our mission is to offer transformative educational experiences. What does that mean for a campus community that aspires to be diverse and vibrant? How do we not only prepare our students to seek employment or graduate and professional programs after graduation, but also empower them to make a difference in the world. How do we ensure our employees have opportunities to develop skills, create new knowledge, and serve our students, their respective professions, the university and the region in the best ways possible?

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Principle

We proudly express we are one of the more diverse campuses within the university. How do we meet the needs of that diverse population? How do we define diversity? Who do we seek to serve? What programs and supports are needed so those we welcome thrive on our campus? How do we meet the aspiration to enroll more than half of our students from underrepresented and underserved groups? How do we use our voice in broader conversations on social justice issues? How do we prepare our employees to fulfill successfully their roles on our campus?

External Engagement Principle

We want to make an impact on the broader community. How do we identify community needs and build partnerships to bring opportunity to the region? How do we create pathways so people know us, seek us out and access what we have to offer? How do we help our students engage with the community, apply what they learn, and develop their personal vision for creating a just society? How do we encourage others to invest in and commit to supporting our programs and people?
