Support for Student Veterans

At Penn State, we’re proud to support veterans and military-connected students as you transition from service to college life. You can continue your education at the Greater Allegheny campus with dedicated guidance, priority access, and the benefits you’ve earned.

Educational Benefits

Our team will help you understand and access available VA education benefits, including:

• Chapter 33 – Post-9/11 GI Bill®
  For veterans who served on active duty after September 11, 2001.
• Chapter 30 – Montgomery GI Bill®
  For service members who contributed to the education fund while on active duty.
• Chapter 31 – Veteran Readiness and Employment (VR&E)
  For veterans with service-connected disabilities seeking vocational support.
• Chapter 35 – Survivors’ and Dependents’ Educational Assistance
  For qualifying spouses and dependents.
• Chapter 1606 – Montgomery GI Bill® Selected Reserve
  For members of the Selected Reserve and National Guard.

Priority Registration

Student veterans receive priority registration to ensure access to required courses. View the Veteran Priority Registration Form for details.

Military-Connected Students and In-State Tuition

Pennsylvania legislation provides in-state tuition rates for eligible veterans, spouses, and dependent children, regardless of current residency. This also applies to qualifying active-duty members, Guard and Reserve members, and certain Department of Defense civilian personnel transferred to Pennsylvania.

To receive in-state tuition under this legislation, veteran or dependent status must be verified. Learn more through the Office of Veterans Programs or review the full act.

Students using U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs education benefits automatically receive in-state tuition and do not need to complete additional residency documentation.
