Immunization Requirements

Medical Entrance Compliance

Penn State’s Health Policy requires that you provide documentation of appropriate immunizations.

Vaccination Information: Immunization Requirements

Immunizations offer safe and effective protection from vaccine-preventable diseases.  The United States is experiencing re-emergence of these diseases, in part due to factors such as non-immunized and under-immunized persons and global travel.  University Health Services of the Pennsylvania State University strongly supports the use of vaccines to protect the health of our individual students and our campus community.

Important Immunization Requirements for All Incoming Students

All incoming Penn State students must provide proof of immunization against measles, mumps, and rubella. In accordance with Pennsylvania state law, students living in on-campus housing must also provide proof of the meningococcal conjugate vaccine (Menveo, Menactra, Menquadfi, MCV4), which protects against infections caused by serogroups A, C, W and Y.

Additionally, the University strongly urges all students to be immunized against COVID-19 (primary series and booster).

To submit: log in to myUHS using your Penn State access credentials, and upload image files of your official immunization records and, if applicable, any positive antibody titer blood test results.

Immunization requirements are applicable to all undergraduate and graduate students at University Park and Commonwealth Campuses excluding World Campus and Great Valley. Immunization records only need to be submitted once. For questions or more information, visit the University Health Services website.

COVID-19 Information

COVID-19 Symptom Tracker

All members of the campus community are strongly encouraged to use the COVID-19 Symptom Checker via the Penn State GO App on a daily basis, even when not on campus.

The Penn State GO App can be downloaded via the Apple App Store and Google Play. Once installed, be sure to choose the proper campus experience by following these steps:

  • Download and install the app.
  • Choose "Commonwealth Campus"
  • Choose "Greater Allegheny"

The symptom checker can then be accessed at the top of the Greater Allegheny app home screen.

Instructions for Students

Meeting Penn State’s immunization requirement(s) is a three-step process:

  1. Obtain an official copy of your immunization record(s) and/or official lab results of positive IgG blood titers for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella

  1. Entering the dates of your MMR vaccines, and if applicable, your meningococcal conjugate vaccine through myUHS Medical Clearances

  1. Upload an image or pdf of your immunization record(s) through myUHS Medical Clearances. Immunization records must show that you have had the required MMR (2 doses of measles, 2 doses of mumps & 1 dose of rubella) vaccines on or after your first birthday.

If submitting blood titer test results, the results must be an official lab report and must be a POSITIVE IgG test.  Negative or equivocal results do not meet the requirement.

Immunization records must show a meningococcal conjugate vaccine on or after your 16th birthday if you are living in University Housing.

Note: Uploading your records AND entering the vaccine dates need to be completed for Penn State to determine if the immunization requirements have been met.  Failure to comply my result in restricting you from registering for your second semester until the requirements have been met.

  1. Access myUHS.
  2. Click on the View My Clearances button to enter immunization dates and upload document(s). (You can also be access View My Clearances by clicking on Medical Clearances on the menu list).
  3. Click on the Measles Update button
  4. Enter the date of dose one. Using the dropdown arrow in Vaccine 1, select the appropriate vaccine received.
  5. Enter the date of dose two. Using the dropdown arrow in Vaccine 2, select the appropriate vaccine received.
  6. Click Done
  7. Click on the Mumps Update button and follow the same instructions as above for date entry.
  8. Click on the Rubella Update button and follow the same instructions as above for date entry.

Note: If you received the MMR vaccine, you only need to complete the Measles section as it will autofill/update that information in the Mumps & Rubella sections.

  1. Click on Meningococcal Update button (if living in University Housing) and enter the most recent date of your meningococcal vaccine. Using the dropdown arrow, select the appropriate vaccine received.

If you have Additional items NOT required for clearance (though recommended) such as Hepatitis B, Meningococcal B, Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria & pertussis) and Varicella, you can enter the dates for those vaccines by clicking on the Update tab under additional items NOT required for clearance.

Note: These vaccines are not required and do not factor in to meeting Penn State’s immunization requirement(s). The status for each, however, will read "Not Compliant" if no dates have been entered.

  1. Click on Immunization Records Update button and upload a .jpg, .png, or .pdf of your records. If you have multiple pages, please upload each page as an individual upload

  2. After your records and dates of your immunizations have been reviewed you will receive a message letting you know if you have met Penn State’s immunization requirement(s).
