First-Year Student Orientation

Access Your NSO Tasklist

Entering the Penn State community is an important time in your life and New Student Orientation is here to support your successful academic, social, and personal transition to the University. All new first-year students to Penn State must participate in New Student Orientation (NSO).

During NSO, you will meet with students, faculty, and staff; begin to develop academic and co-curricular goals; become familiar with campus resources; and schedule courses for your first semester to begin putting your academic plan into action.

To prepare for a successful transition to Penn State, we've developed an NSO Tasklist to help you navigate your next steps. Your NSO Tasklist will generally be available one business day after you accept your offer of admission to Penn State.

Here are some helpful tips for you as you plan to access your NSO Tasklist:

  • You will receive an email when the tasklist opens for you. This email is sent to the address that you provided on your application to Penn State. Once that email is received, please access and complete your NSO Tasklist in a timely manner.
  • You will use your Penn State Account User ID (followed by @psu.edu) and password (e.g., [email protected]) to access this tasklist.
  • You will use your NSO Tasklist to make a reservation to participate in an NSO program.
  • Your tasklist is personalized to you and will walk you through each step of your orientation. Please pay attention to all posted due dates as they are unique to you, your Penn State campus, and when you will attend NSO.

International Students

International orientation programming is mandatory. Although you can schedule your fall semester courses via video conference early, attendance at an NSO session before the semester begins is still required. For additional information on travel, re-entry, health insurance, and more, visit the University's Global Programs website.

Additional Orientation Resources

We have a few additional suggestions to help you prepare to transition to Penn State for your first semester.

  1. Accept Your Offer of Admission: If you've received an acceptance to Penn State, congratulations! Make sure to officially accept your admission offer so you can access your NSO Tasklist.
  2. Monitor Your Penn State Email: We will communicate important updates and information to the email address you provided in your admissions application.
  3. Register for New Student Orientation: NSO reservations open in early April. Choose a date that works for you and a member of your support circle to attend NSO on campus.
  4. Prepare for Academic Advising: Complete your pre-NSO checklist, available starting March 2. This preparation will help you make the most of your academic advising session. Review Penn State’s academic calendar and make note of important dates. Familiarize yourself with LionPATH and its various functions. Don’t forget to use Delegated Access to grant parents or family members access to parts of your educational record.
  5. Take the ALEKS Math Assessment: Successful completion of the ALEKS Math Assessment is essential for a curious math placement. The assessment will happen during your scheduled NSO appointment at the Greater Allegheny campus.
  6. Learn About Financial Aid: Familiarize yourself with the financial aid process and understand how to pay your tuition bill. This information will be crucial as you plan for your education.
  7. Set up your Mobile id+ card: Visit idcard.psu.edu/mobile, Download the Transact eAccounts mobile app, Select "Get Started" and log into your Penn State account, Activate by clicking "Add to Wallet" (compatible with Apple Wallet, Google Wallet, and Samsung Wallet).
  8. Get Your Parking Permit: Complete the parking permit application and pick up your permit at Housing and Food Services in the Student Community Center.
  9. Complete Penn State AWARE: All new students are required to complete Penn State AWARE, a sexual assault awareness learning module. Students under 21 must also complete Penn State SAFE (Student Alcohol Feedback and Education). You will receive instructions and updates via email after orientation.
  10. Organize Your Healthcare: Submit your immunization verification documents via your myUHS account at uhsonline.psu.edu. Submit your health insurance information to LionPATH. Learn about the Student Health Insurance plan. Reach out to Counseling and Psychological Services to arrange for ongoing counseling and psychiatric services.
  11. Living On-Campus? Prepare for Move-In: View your room assignments and roommate information. Introduce yourself to your roommate. Decide who will be bringing what items. Review move-in procedures; print out parking information. Brush up on your laundry skills! More information can be found at liveon.psu.edu/greater-allegheny
