Steps to Navigate Financial Aid

  1. Fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

    • The FAFSA becomes available in October. Submit it early with Penn State Greater Allegheny's school code (003329) to maximize your aid opportunities.
    • If you were in foster care or a ward of the court since turning 13, you may qualify as "independent" on the FAFSA. This status could make you eligible for additional resources such as campus coaches, emergency financial assistance, mentoring, and tuition support.
    • Note: Answering "yes" requires submission of a dependency review packet to Student Aid for verification.
  2. Explore Pennsylvania Chafee Education and Training Grant Program

    • Contact the ACE office for assistance with the Pennsylvania Chafee Grant application.
  3. Check Eligibility for Fostering Independence Tuition Waiver Program

    • Contact the ACE office for assistance regarding the Fostering Independence Tuition Waiver.
  4. Search for Scholarships & Grants

    • Scholarships are available from various sources, including Penn State and external organizations. Explore internal and external scholarship opportunities through links provided by Penn State's Office of Student Aid.
    • Contact the ACE office for guidance on foster youth scholarship applications.
  5. Apply for ACE - Trio Student Support Services Program

    • ACE offers comprehensive support, including mentoring and tuition assistance, specifically for foster youth, first-generation, low-income, and students with disabilities.
