In 2018, Penn State Greater Allegheny was selected as one of six institutions statewide to form a cohort supported by the Field Center for Children’s Policy, Practice and Research at the University of Pennsylvania. This partnership provided crucial technical support aimed at developing evidence-based programming to enhance retention and graduation outcomes for foster youth on our campus.
The collaboration with the Field Center enabled us to gain deeper insights into the unique challenges faced by foster youth and fostered internal and external partnerships essential for supporting their needs effectively.
Our initiative was further influenced by successful models like Fostering Lions at University Park and Fostering Success Michigan, both recognized nationally for their campus-based support programs for foster youth. Drawing on the expertise of leaders across campus, Penn State Greater Allegheny officially launched its campus support program for students with foster care experience in Fall 2019.
