Honors Program Admission and Requirements

Welcome to the Penn State Greater Allegheny Honors Program

Are you ready to accept the challenge and realize the reward that can be gained from participating in the Penn State Greater Allegheny Honors Program? This program allows high achieving students to seek academic enrichment and leadership opportunities at Penn State Greater Allegheny and beyond. Participation in the Honors Program allows you to further customize your academic experience and build skills that will serve you well in your future endeavors. This opportunity is yours to take! Will you accept the challenge?

Meet the Committee

Admission into the Honors Program

Invitation Only Admission

Admission to the Honors Program is by invitation only. Eligible incoming first-year students are invited by the Honors committee during the admission process, based on their outstanding academic records and potential. Currently enrolled students may also be invited at the beginning of each semester, or under special circumstances with approval, at other times.

Honors Credit and Grade Requirements

  • Complete at least six honors credits per academic year
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.33 or higher
  • Earn a minimum GPA of 3.20 each semester
  • Earn a grade of B or better for all honors credits

Honors Event Attendance Requirements

  • Attend the fall and spring semester Undergraduate Student Research and Creativity Conference
  • Attend at least two honors events per semester from a variety of optional events, including:
    • Speakers, films, or performances sponsored by the Teaching International Program
    • Cultural excursions sponsored by a campus faculty member or organization
    • Other events sponsored by the Honors Program

  • Incoming First-Year Students: Invitations are extended during the admission process.
