Earning Honors Credits
Honors credits may be earned in one of four ways:
- Enrollment in a designated honors course
- Completion of an Honors Option in a course taught by a full-time faculty member
- Completion of an Honors Independent Study under the direction of a full-time faculty member
- Completion of a 400-level course during the freshman or sophomore year, with the permission of the instructor
- 6 Honors Designated Credits must be completed per academic year to remain active in the Honors Program.
Student guidelines
- Honors students may explore possibilities for an Honors option or independent study with any full-time faculty member at Greater Allegheny. The Honors option must be formally added by submitting an add form available through the campus Registrar. Interested students should contact the instructor by the first week of the semester for permission to add the Honors designation and complete the form.
- To receive honors credits for an Honors option course, you must present the results of your work in the form of a poster at the Student Research and Creativity Conference. Failure to submit and present your poster will result in the removal of the Honors designation from your transcript.
- The filing of an Honors option represents a commitment by both student and instructor to see the project through. The course may not revert to Non-Honors status without the permission of the instructor. The Office of Academic Affairs must receive written notification immediately of such a change, but no later than the end of the sixth week of the semester.
