Our structured internship process at Penn State Greater Allegheny is designed to support student success and streamline the journey toward securing the ideal internship opportunity.

  • Register for Internship Prep Course: Starting in the 4th and 5th semesters, enroll in a one-credit (1cr.) internship prep course. This academic course is tailored to prepare students for the internship application process, refine networking skills, and enhance interview readiness.

  • Initiate Internship Search: Begin searching for internships during your 4th or 5th semester, aiming to start your internship by the 6th semester. Cast a wide net by applying to at least six (6) different potential internships. After applying, maintain communication by following up every two weeks to demonstrate ongoing interest.

  • Consult with Coordinators and Stay Updated: Schedule meetings with the campus internship coordinator and faculty advisor to finalize and submit your internship proposal. Regularly update the CANVAS internship course with bi-weekly progress reports to keep all stakeholders informed.

  • Understand Expectations: Familiarize yourself with NACE Competencies and the essential skills employers seek in interns as you develop your internship proposal.
