Financial Policy

  • Tuition and Fees
    Tuition and course fees are due at the time of registration. Payment plan options are available for AEMT and Paramedic programs. Please refer to individual course pages for specific details.

  • Refund Policy
    This refund policy applies to students who have registered for an EMS continuing education course and paid tuition in full.

  • EMR and EMT courses:

    • 100% refund if withdrawal occurs prior to the first scheduled class

    • 50% refund if withdrawal occurs within the first 12 hours of instruction

    • No refunds will be issued after the first 12 hours of the course

EMS Training Classes

Maintain your certification and stay current with the latest American Heart Association (AHA) ACLS guidelines through this ACLS Renewal course offered by Penn State Greater Allegheny Continuing Education.

Designed for paramedics, registered nurses, and physicians, this course focuses on evidence-based practices for managing cardiac emergencies in high-pressure clinical and prehospital settings.

For Healthcare Professionals

The Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider CPR course is designed for healthcare professionals who need to earn or renew BLS certification in accordance with current standards.

This course covers the full range of BLS knowledge and skills, including adult CPR, pediatric basic life support, two-rescuer CPR, and the use of barrier devices. Training also emphasizes the importance of automated external defibrillator (AED) use as a critical component of effective emergency response.

Participants will complete both a written exam and a hands-on skills evaluation to successfully earn certification.

Register for BLS

Build a strong foundation in prehospital emergency medical services with Penn State Greater Allegheny’s EMT program, designed to prepare students for real-world emergency response and national certification.

This course follows established EMS procedures and provides the essential knowledge and hands-on skills required to begin a career in emergency medical services.

Program Overview

  • Minimum of 180 hours of combined online coursework and in-person skills training

  • Hybrid format:

    • Online coursework completed independently

    • In-person lab and skills sessions held once per week

  • Upon successful completion, students are eligible to test for National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) certification and Pennsylvania Department of Health EMT certification

Prerequisites

  • Must be 16 years of age or older

  • Pennsylvania Department of Health selection process is enforced

Schedule and Important Dates

  • Program Dates: February 17 through May 19, 2026

  • Mandatory Orientation (via Zoom):
    February 10, 2026 | 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

  • In-Person Skills Sessions:
    Tuesdays | 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Course Fee

$700

Course fee includes:

  • EMS testing

  • Course instruction and guided lab sessions

Students are responsible for:

  • National Registry (NREMT) examination fee

  • Required learning platform and e-book access

The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Instructor course prepares experienced EMS professionals to teach and lead in the evolving field of prehospital care.

Participants will explore educational psychology, effective teaching strategies, and instructional methods across the cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains. The course emphasizes hands-on practice, with students developing and delivering oral and practical lessons, participating in peer feedback, and refining their instructional approach.

Additional topics include strategies for working with both challenging and high-performing students, as well as updates on current trends and developments in emergency medical services.


Prerequisites & Eligibility

  • Must be 18 years of age or older

  • Must hold current PA Department of Health certification as an EMT, AEMT, or Paramedic

  • Minimum of one year of field experience required

AHA Requirement

Participants must complete the AHA BLS Instructor Essentials course online prior to the start of class (not included in tuition) or provide proof of current BLS Instructor certification.

Register for EMS Instructor Course

For Community Members

The Heartsaver CPR course is designed for lay rescuers who want the knowledge and confidence to respond to cardiac emergencies. This training focuses on primary prevention, recognizing the signs of a heart attack, and responding to sudden cardiac arrest in adults.

Ideal for family members and friends of high-risk individuals, school personnel, students, employees, and members of the general public, this course offers a practical and efficient way to learn lifesaving skills. Instruction may also include the use of barrier devices.

Formal written and skills exams are not required. Instead, hands-on practice and guided feedback are used to reinforce learning and build confidence.

This training program equips first responders with the knowledge and skills needed to recognize, assess, and respond to substance-related emergencies. Participants will learn about current substances of use, their pharmacological effects, and strategies for providing safe and effective care.

This course is ideal for emergency personnel looking to enhance their response capabilities and stay up-to-date with best practices in substance use intervention.

  • Course Fee: $50

  • CEUs: Approved for 3 continuing education units by the PA Department of Health

  • Pre-registration is required.

Register for Substance Use Disorder

HeartCode BLS is the American Heart Association’s (AHA) blended learning method for Basic Life Support (BLS), designed to give healthcare providers flexibility while maintaining high-quality resuscitation training.

Participants complete the online portion at their own pace and then attend a hands-on skills session at Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus to practice and demonstrate essential BLS skills. Access to the BLS Provider Manual eBook (20-3102) is included. This course is updated with the latest science from the 2020 AHA Guidelines for CPR and ECC.


How It Works

  1. Complete the online HeartCode BLS course at your own pace.

  2. Receive instructions for the in-person skills session.

  3. Schedule and attend your hands-on session to complete the course.
