Penn State Greater Allegheny's Spring commencement

Penn State Greater Allegheny held its Spring 2015 commencement on Saturday, May 9, in the Wunderley Gymnasium on the campus.  Director of Academic Affairs Margaret Signorella presided as diplomas were conferred to students receiving baccalaureate degrees.  The keynote speaker was Andrew Butcher, chief executive officer/co-founder of GTECH Strategies - Growth Through Energy and Community Health.

Professor receives first LGBT achievement award

Penn State Greater Allegheny Associate Professor of History Douglas Charles received the first Academic Achievement Award from Penn State’s Commission on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Equity (CLGBTE). The University-wide award recognizes outstanding achievement in research, teaching, and/or academic coursework.

Penn State Greater Allegheny welcomed City of McKeesport Mayor Michael Cherepko to campus today as the students of BA 422W, Strategic Business Planning, presented a strategic analysis for the city. The class spent the spring semester performing an in-depth study of the business planning strategies of McKeesport. The presentation was followed by a question-and-answer session.

Ashley attended a small private high school, so when the time came to begin looking at colleges, "the idea of going to a very large campus seemed daunting," she said. She wanted to attend a school where she could play softball and pursue her goal of becoming an engineer. After learning about the 2+2 program and talking to the softball coach at Penn State Greater Allegheny, she decided to apply.

High school filmmakers visit Greater Allegheny campus

Future filmmakers from McKeesport High School's digital media class shot footage and conducted an interview with an admissions counselor on the Greater Allegheny campus as part of a short documentary they're producing about how to prepare for life after high school.

Douglas Charles, associate professor of history, is finishing the proofing of his new book, Hoover's War on Gays: Exposing the FBI's "Sex Deviates" Program (University Press of Kansas, September 2015). While he works on this project he has also been using social media to promote the book and also to draw attention to neglected areas of history.

Greater Allegheny contingent visits Puerto Rico to recruit students

Four representatives from Penn State Greater Allegheny recently visited Puerto Rico in an effort to recruit new students to the diverse campus sports teams. Men's soccer head coach Achilles Vassilicos, men's basketball head coach Tyler Care, enrollment services specialist Rachael Banks, and student Gabriel Medina travelled to the island, where they held an open house and visited with more than 150 students and their parents.
