Teaching the Balkans speaker to address juvenile justice in Serbia

Djuradj Stakic, Professor of Human Development and Family Studies at Penn State Brandywine, will speak on Monday, October 20, 2014 at noon. His topic, "The Juvenile Justice System in Serbia," is sponsored by the campus Teaching International program and this year's focus on the Balkans. 

Croatian folk music group to perform

Tamburitza Folk Ensemble "Tamburgeri" from Zagreb, Croatia will visit the campus and perform music from all areas of Croatia. They will be appearing with guest artist Jerry Grcevich. The performance will take place at noon on October 14 in the Ostermayer Room of the Student Community Center. The event is part of Teaching International's focus this academic year on the Balkans.

Penn State Greater Allegheny to welcome Ningbo Opera

Penn State Greater Allegheny will welcome the Ningbo Yong Opera Troupe from Ningbo, China on Monday, October 13 at 7 p.m. in the Wunderley Gymnasium. The 27 member troupe from Ningbo Performance & Arts Group is traveling to the US from Ningbo, China. The group is planning an approximately 1.5 hour performance, which will include parts from Andi, adapted from Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer-winning Anna Christie, as well as highlights from a few other plays.

Banned Books Week

Last week was the annual Banned Books Week. Greater Allegheny head librarian and American Library Association President Courtney Young had a commentary about this and other issues in Huffington Post. In addition, Kelly Library has a display of banned books, focusing on this year's Teaching International theme of gender, but encompassing other topics as well.

Teaching International series kicks off with the origins of World War I

Associate professor of history Douglas M. Charles presented a lecture, "It Started with an Assassination: the First World War, the End of Empire, and Self-Determination," as part of the Teaching International program at Penn State Greater Allegheny on Sept. 22. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the origins of World War I.

Fall 2014 art workshops on gender by Mary Collins

This fall there will be a series of art workshops as part of Teaching International and its theme this year of gender. The workshops are an opportunity for hands-on exploration of art. led by Mary Collins, who teaches several different art classes at Penn State Greater Allegheny.
