About Psi Chi
Psi Chi is an honor society that celebrates academic excellence in psychology. Founded in 1929, it encourages and supports students and faculty who are deeply engaged in the study of psychology. Psi Chi helps members grow academically, professionally, and personally while advancing the science of psychology.
What is Psi Chi?
Psi Chi is part of the Association of College Honor Societies and is affiliated with organizations like the American Psychological Association (APA) and the Association for Psychological Science (APS). With chapters at over 1,000 colleges and universities in the United States, Psi Chi provides a nationwide network of support and recognition for psychology scholars.
Goals of Psi Chi
Psi Chi has two main goals:
Academic Recognition
Honor students and faculty for their achievements and dedication in psychology.
Professional Development
Provide opportunities for growth through research, networking, and local chapter programs.
Encourage practical experience and fellowship among members.
How to Become a Member
Undergraduates are eligible if they:
Have completed 3 semesters (or 5 quarters) of college coursework
Have completed 9 semester hours (or 14 quarter hours) of psychology courses
Rank in the top 35% of their class overall
Have a minimum 3.2 GPA in psychology courses and overall
Membership is granted through election by your campus chapter. Psi Chi values diversity and welcomes qualified students regardless of age, gender, race, religion, or other personal characteristics.
