The Bachelor of Social Work (B.S.W.) program at Penn State Greater Allegheny prepares students for professional, generalist practice in diverse settings. Through structured field education experiences, students engage with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities, applying theoretical knowledge to real-world situations.
What You Can Expect
Our field education program ensures that all students have opportunities to demonstrate the nine social work competencies as outlined by the CSWE. These competencies are integrated into field placements across various system levels:
Individuals: One-on-one interactions focusing on assessment, intervention, and evaluation.
Families: Engagement with family dynamics and support systems.
Groups: Facilitating group processes and interventions.
Organizations: Understanding organizational structures and functioning.
Communities: Community organizing and development initiatives.
Each field placement is designed to provide a minimum of 400 hours of supervised practice, ensuring students meet the CSWE's field education requirements.
